Response to Melissa M's: Dunkin Donuts

How do you think this will effect doughnut customers? Will they still think of Dunkin Donuts when looking to find a doughnut if DD's isn't marketing towards doughnut eaters anymore? How will this effect Dunkin Donuts?

I think this will effect the doughnut customers because for the longest time, a doughnut shop was a place to get coffee and doughnuts, and now with the dunkin donuts becoming more popular in making healthier breakfast choices, the common customer is more likely to not get a doughnut. I don't think many people till this day are looking at Dunkin's as a place to get doughnuts anymore, so I don't think it will become a problem because more people are also trying to be healthier and eat less crappy food such as doughnuts. I don't think it will effect Dunkin Donuts that much but if this was happening 10 to 15 years ago I would think it would hurt them a lot.

Ship My Pants: Advertisement

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=I03UmJbK0lA

Want to ship your pants too? Can't find what you're looking for in store, a sales associate can find it on Kmart.com and ship it to you for free! In this clever advertisement, K-Mart tries to find of a funny way for people to remember their new way of being able to ship exactly what you want if you can't find it in the stores. I think this is a clever way for people to be interested in what they have to offer by making it funny for viewers to actually pay attention to what they are trying to get across.

Normally I skip over or don't pay attention to what advertisements are trying to sell me or tell me, but when I came across this, i thought it was unique and hilarious and I watched it over again. By making "ship" sound like crude dirty humor, it catches the viewers attention.

Do you think K-mart has a clever way of keeping viewers interested in what they are trying to sell?

In Response to Tyler T's: Gender Discrimination in Advertisement

I believe that companies are doing that because most men want to be more manly and have a product that looks more manly so they aren't drinking the same things as women. I agree that its discriminating and we should all be treated equal, but companies do it because women are the main shoppers and the main consumers on most products, so if they come out with a product that is to be just for men, then men will be more interested in what they are trying to sell.

Do you think its right for companies to focus more on men?

The Awful Smell Around Campus in April

As spring rolls around, everyone is always looking forward to sitting outside, catching some rays, procrastinating on doing homework and going to class, but there always seems to be one problem, the trees that they place all around campus. Once April is here, the Pyrus calleryana Chanticleer, more commonly known as “The Semen Tree” is covered all around our Keene State Campus. This tree has even made it to urban dictionary, where it is described as smelling “like a cross between old semen, dirty vagina, and rotting fried shrimp.”

I first caught a whiff of this lovely tree when I was here my freshman year. I was walking around campus and kept asking myself "what is that horrible smell??" I later realized that it was the trees around campus. Even now as a Senior I can not stand the smell on campus when the wind blows. I personally don't think our school used their money wisely on the expense of these trees. I believe money could be well spent on other lovely trees that are beautiful and smell a lot better.

Do you think it was a smart idea for our school to spend and plant so many of these trees around campus even though from afar they look beautiful?

In Response to Melissa M's: Bran Recognition

My opinion on brand recognition is that it is a great way for companies to get their customers educated on what they are selling and also help customers remember their cool different logos. By just having an image for a logo you know exactly what the product is what company they are. It's easier than having all companies have their full logo name on a product and just having a picture or image. I've been exposed to so many advertisements growing up with my dad buying all the latest technologies and always seeing items in the grocery stores and on T.V.

Men's Nail Polish Becoming a Popular Purchase

Men’s using nail polish is often thought of as out of the question, but in recent articles, it is starting to show up in kick boxing and martial arts, to cover up banged up nails. Its started with Former Ultimate Fighting Championship star Chuck Liddell, he started to sport a pink polish during fights. He said that it would occasionally help him talk to women. As a retired fighter, he started his own cosmetic line, which included polish paint that were named “manly colors” Such as “burnin rubber” and “gasoline”.  Liddell pointed out that his website is way over the top, and is just for males. After he saw his sales increasing to males that aren't into fighting and don’t have ruined nails, “just looking for a bit of flare” he softened his marketing approach. The company sells about 400 pens a month.  Female nail polish industry is still at an all time high, but because of the flexibility of social norms, male nail polish is being accepted into the market. In the years past It was thought as less masculine because you were taking care of yourself, but today, men are seeing the importance of taking care of yourself. I think this website proves that we are pressured by celebrities to use certain products.

Do you think it's a good marketing idea for celebrities to market off using nail polish?

Response to Melissa M's: Creative Packaging

What is your opinion of creative packaging? Is it worth the time and money? Does it generate higher sales?

I think that creative packaging is a really cool idea because it makes the consumer go out and purchase the products more if they get a cool package that comes with it. I don't think its really worth all the extra money just to make a package cool especially if people are trying to go green and save on using packing products it's not really worth the time and money. I think it generates higher sales because people think it looks cool and will pay sometimes the extra money for a neat way to get their product.

Recycled Items

Now a days many young adults today are looking to live in a greener world and now many companies are using more recycled materials. By doing this, it can become a lot more costly for the company making some prices of their products go up. The material is better for the environment and will keep the air cleaner but not everyone is going to pay extra for this. They are trying to reach the target market but currently many of us don't want to pay extra for these things. It seems that companies who should invest in greener materials should only be ones who can afford it and not change their prices. If the company has extra money to use these materials they should just began to for not just target market, but for the world as well.

Would you pay extra for a material that claims to be made in a more green way?

Response to Melissa M's: Designing a Logo

If logos had always been more simple, without hidden messages or clever abstract symbols, what effect do you think it would have on brand recognition today?

If logos had always been more simple without hidden messages or clever abstract symbols, I don't think many consumers would remember the products as much. As written in the original essay, saying that Apple has the apple for their products everyone knows that, that is their product. It's a helpful reminder without having to read what product your purchasing or holding in your hand.

Bud light Marketing Promotions

So much of Bud Lights expenses come from the amount of promoting they do. Last weekend I was in Keene at Cobblestone Ale House for the Superbowl and they had the Bud Light Promo girls there. During the game they had people text a number and every so often a question would come out and first to answer would win a prize. Once the small prizes were gone, they started texting winners saying that they won a prize! The prizes ranged from Bud Light mirrors to a lazy boy chair. During the game they also had the girls walking around and having them play small games against an opponent to win T-shirts, hats, koozies, pens, glasses, buckets and more.

Do you think this is a good way for Bud Light to promote their products?

In response to Joe M's:Superbowl 2013 Commercials

Do you think that it is worth these companies paying all this money for a commercial during the Superbowl? What is your opinions on this year's Superbowl commercials?

Though companies could be spending much of their money elsewhere, I think that in the competitive market today that many companies deal with, they need to spend all the money to make a commercial that is going to stick in their customers heads and by doing that they need to spend a lot of money. I don't think its fair that the T.V commercial prices are so high, but in a competitive market today, prices on commercials is outrageous. I thought that this years Superbowl commercials were hilarious and memorable. They were commercials that I would remember the companies product and the hilariousness that they put into it.

Flash Mobs

Have you ever been walking around somewhere in public, and all of the sudden people begin to dance? A new form of promotion and advertising that has really taken off recently because it is extremely fun to be a part of are...Flash Mobs! This is when a group of people assemble suddenly in a public place and perform some organized dance to grab peoples attention. These gatherings have been done quite frequently, but recently they are being done to promote businesses. The reason why I believe this idea works is because it grabs the attention of many different people and is not a form of advertising that is seen everyday! Companies that have experimented with this technique are T- Mobile, AT&T, and Budweiser. All these companies have nothing, but wonderful things to say about this technique because it is new and fresh!

Do you think this new way of advertising is effective?

Response to Melissa Moriwaki : Social Media Marketing

Do you think the best kind of social media to use depends on what industry you are in.

I think that depending on what company you work for depends on how you will show off your products and deals to the public. With Facebook, companies that direct to more our age group, such as the local bars, keep college students and local townies updated constantly on deals, promotions, and other events that are held at the bar.

When it comes to other social medias such as the newspaper, Grocery stores and Depot markets like to put their coupons in their local newspapers. Other companies may use twitter to get their deals out to the public. I personally think that Facebook is the best way for companies and products to promote their business because in today's society, more people are starting to use Facebook of all ages.

Which of the following do you think is better for today's society on social media marketing, Facebook, Twitter, or Newspaper?

TV Advertisements

In today's society, we are bombarded with so many advertisements on TV, that it takes up most of our time when watching television. Companies are trying to get their product shown to the world in many different ways but television seems to be the key to advertisements. Its a TV slot which aims to send promotional messages to viewers and convince potential customers to buy products or services offered by the sponsoring organization.

Apart from being considered the most powerful mass-market advertising media, the TV advertising market is also highly profitable. The prices paid by advertisers for TV commercials depend on the broadcasting time. The most expensive time, known as prime time, is between 7 pm and 8 pm. Channels with different coverage also charge different rates for advertising: broadcasters with national coverage offer pricier advertising services than those with regional coverage. TV broadcasters' pricing policy depends also on the audience share of their programs.

Products and Company's rely on TV advertising to be able to get their product out to the public over and over again so that they will eventually cave in and buy their product. The disadvantages of TV advertisements include their high costs, time-consuming production and short life cycle. Furthermore, viewers can more easily confuse slogans or forget the message of the advertisement due to the large amount of commercials broadcast.

In TV advertisements, what works and what doesn't work and why?
